Get Rid of Your Only Tub

No matter how lovely that walk-in shower appears, if resale value is important to you, don’t get rid of your lone bathtub.
When the time comes, it will be more difficult to sell. You’ll categorically lose customers who enjoy a relaxing soak or who require a tub for young children.

Leave Cabinet Doors on While Painting

You can just paint over that outdated wallpaper instead of removing it. Simply avoid using water-based paint for this. It can make the wallpaper glue reactivate and make the paper start to peel. Instead, use an oil-based primer, allow it to dry completely, and then cover it with latex paint. The industry standard for many years, oil-based primer complements both latex and oil-based paints.

Paint Exterior Brick

Try installing new shutters, repainting the front door, or updating your landscaping if you’re eager for a fresh external appearance. Those changes might satisfy your need while enhancing your curb appeal. Try brick stain, which bonds with the brick and lets it breathe, if you simply can’t stand the color of your bricks.

Inform your HOA of your upgrading plans because oftentimes, those involve seemingly insignificant elements. If not, you run the danger of receiving a ticket or penalties. Or, even worse, told to reverse it.

Leave Hoses Connected in Winter

Each fall, detach and store your lawnmower’s hoses as well. If you leave them in place during cold weather, the water may freeze in the pipes and possibly the faucets as well. By the way, leaving a hose connected throughout the cold also damages it.

Keep an Old-Fashioned Thermostat

Maintaining a comfortable house temperature while you’re at work or sleeping is a waste of resources. If the thermostat in your home is not programmed, you will need to manually adjust it several times daily to prevent all that waste. (Like you need to do another task before leaving.)

Immediately install a programmable thermostat. Although purchasing a single smart thermostat for roughly $200 may seem expensive, most houses may recover their costs through energy savings in less than two years. Additionally, a lot of energy providers provide discounts that significantly lower the cost of a thermostat. Some might even offer one without charge.

Put a Brick in Your Toilet Tank

Many individuals fill their older, high-water-use toilets with bricks to reduce water usage and save money. Bricks, however, break down in water and can harm or clog pipes.

Replace the toilet for $350 or less, or you can put a half-gallon milk jug full of sand in the tank as an alternative.

Water Grass at Night

Given that power costs are lower in the evening, it can make sense to water your lawn then, especially if you use a sprinkler system. However, water is more likely to stick to grass at night and breed fungus if there isn’t sunlight to evaporate it. Drink water in the morning instead because it is cooler, the sun is rising, and there is less wind than at noon.

Clean Windows on a Sunny Day

A hot, sunny day seems like the ideal time to clean windows. It’s the worst, despite what you may think, because the light dries windows too quickly and leaves smudges. Save this task on a cloudy day instead.

Pour Bleach or Drain Cleaner Down Pipes

The use of bleach seems to be a terrific way to keep pipes clear and odor-free, since drain cleaner is, after all, specifically designed for pipes.

Regrettably, bleach can interact with materials in your pipes and result in more clogs than it avoids. Even drain cleaning is harsh on pipes, and both are bad for the environment. (Plus, a septic field can be destroyed with just a teaspoon of drain cleaner.)

Instead, maintain pipes flowing easily by using a pipe snake, often known as an auger.
